How do you kill a tab when the website won't let go?

Sometimes you end up at a website that won't let go. It will ask, "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this website?" and you have to click on something to get it to let you go. For all I know, I could be giving it permission to install a virus. What I want to be able to do is hit Ctrl-W and have the tab go away NO MATTER WHAT. These are websites that usually turn out to be an ad for something.

I'm not aware of a reliable way to strip off or neutralize all these "unload" handlers. While completely blocking scripts will remove these warnings, that isn't practical for sites you like to use. (If you want to browse new sites with scripts disabled, one tool for that is the NoScript extension.)

Perhaps there is another add-on??
