Unable to restore previous session even after full uninstall and reinstall

I've recently had a issue with the "Oops this is embarrassing" tab, where I'm unable to restore my previous session tabs. I've done a full Uninstall (i.e) Uninstall Firefox, CCleaned Registry, Deleted remaining registry keys and folder regarding firefox and deleted all Firefox folders from the Appdata folders {Roaming} and {Local}.......

Done a hard restart and a fresh install of Firefox (no plugins or anything) and what do you know still the same problem, the "Oops" screen appears. I would like fire fox to Automatically restore my tabs as it did before the update.

Before you say it, yes "Show my windows and tabs" is selected and I've also selected "remember history" and "Use custom settings for History" in the privacy tab!

Still not Automatically Restoring Previous Session!

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Correction, Its "Well, This is Embarrassing" Screen

You may have corrupt sessionstore file(s).

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the sessionstore file(s). Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

You are a absolute Champion, I was scratching my head with this one! Even after I deleted the Profiles folder and mozilla folders in appdata. Would you know what could cause a corrupt session backup/restore on a fresh install!? Yes this helped, now back to normal. 10/10 :D

I've even taken ownership, ran as Admin and changed all my permissions and still no solution!?

I delete the files as stated, on first startup and shutdown it will restore OK, but after first startup id fails again!

P.S, Running Windows 10 64bit (32bit Firefox) but 64bit Firefox does the same thing!

If the next suggestion does not work, Please go to the top of any support.mozilla.org web page and use the Ask A Question link; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new This will let us look at your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.

Use the instructions in the a bove link to create a new, black profile. Do Not make any changes at this tome. Use it as is. Is the problem still there?

Yes, unfortunately the problem is still there! After first start with blank profile the tabs resume automatically, but after second start and exit, previous session fails!

Here's the page with System Details! https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1101977

You have nvidia's network access manager or forceware network manager software installed? Disable / remove it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/connectivity-crashing-firefox-43-update

nvidia's network access manager or forceware network manager software is not installed on my computer, problem still there!

Mod closed other thread for being duplicate, but typical didn't help one bit! This is sad!

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear any personal data?

No, not using Clear history when Firefox closes!

These exit options don't change a thing! Still the "Well this is embarrassing" window appears every time I start Firefox! "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button) Windows: File > Exit or just "X"

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder that stores session data. When sessionstore.js is deleted you lose App Tabs and Tab Groups and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  1. 1
  2. 2
