Recently, I have been unable to hold down backspace to delete multiple characters in certain text boxes in Firefox. Namely, in the EndeavorOS forum post text box, Google Docs, and the google search box. I am not experiencing this issue with any other app, and in chrome, with the same pages, the issue doesn’t occur. The issue also does not occur in the URL box or the forum post text box here. The issue still occurs in troubleshoot mode.

Try Firefox from Mozilla and see if you have the same issue.

Also see if you have the same issue on a live usb stick using your distro. X11 or Wayland?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

I've already done so with no luck.

The issue is still occurring with that version of Firefox.

I just tested on Wayland, and the issue is absent.

I'm also having this issue and i think this might be due to the new release of KDE 6 ? i'm on Arch Linux and i wasn't having this issue before KDE 6 on X11. It seems like the original poster was able to go around the issue by using Wayland but i cannot use Wayland atm due to multiple reason and i am stuck on X11. Also i want to point out that we both use an Nvidia GPU if that changes anything.

I downloaded Firefox beta and the issue was absent however i would like to utilize Firefox stable release instead of the Beta version.

Another thing that i noticed is that the backspace only delete one character(if i press it without release) on google or youtube but it works on duckduckgo in a very buggy manner. For example when i press backspace in duckduckgo search bar, it will delete the first character then it will wait for maybe a whole second then start deleting the other characters at a very slow and buggy pace. Typing anything the search bar at this link https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/ will also work if i press backspace but it will be a bit laggy and slow just like on the duckduckgo search bar.

I tried in a new profile, i tried completely deleting the .mozilla cache from my home directory and my cache directory. I also tried what one of the poster said earlier about enabling troubleshooting mode and disabling hardware acceleration because i also thought maybe it had something to do with it but it still does it

Typing anything on the main search bar of the firefox browser will work without an issue, its really just webpages text box that are having an issue with the backspace

Somehow firefox beta works and i'm typing this message from the floorp browser.

Did you try the Mozilla release build?

Does it still happen with the flatpak package?

You can run mozregression between 124 and 125 to find the fix.

i tried with 124-125 and now i just tried 123-124 and they both work. I think it maybe related to the arch official package itself or something to do with KDE 6, i'm not really sure.

New changes are often tested for a few cycles on Nightly before being released so you may need to go back a few versions.
