Messages not loading in preview window or tabs; only loading if I open in a new window.

The solution given to this issue is to open in safe mode. That works, but it doesn't fix it in normal mode. If I don't open in safe mode the problem persists.

I can't believe that I would now always have to open email in safe mode for it to work properly. Is there a permanent fix to the problem? To be clear, when I click on a message, rather than it showing up in preview window it just says "LOADING" and never actually loads. Even if I open it in a new tab, it will do the same thing. The only solution is to open the email in a separate window, which is often times a hassle.

Or, if safe mode is actually the same and I should just use safe mode and not worry about it, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for any additional help on this.

Chosen solution

perhaps the canned text for testing in safe mode will help

Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

This worked. Thank you. I didn't find the offending add-on, so it must have been one I'm no longer using. Thanks again.
