I have tb on a chromebook plus. Very small memory. In settings, I have sync set to 30 days. I'm using imap.

In Message Synchronization, I've unchecked "keep all messages". In Advanced, I've only checked the folders I want sync'd.

But, if I go to an unchecked folder, and delete a header, the message is deleted from the imap server. I'd like to delete all the headers from that folder, but leave the messages on the server. How can I do that ?

You can't. That is how IMAP works.

But I've chosen NOT to sync that folder. If tb is still sync'ing the folder, why is it even an option ? It seems that every folder is sync'd regardless of whether it's checked or not. What does a check (or no check) do ?

When using IMAP you are viewing what is on the server remotely. Anything you do at the server or from any device is reflected on the server.

The options in sync you keep referring to is only about downloading the entire message to your local device for reading when you have no network connection and are offline. This does not change the physics of how the IMAP standard works.

A check or no check says to download the entire message, header and body, or just the header.
