How do i get the old CTRL + TAB function back?

The newest Firefox update (63.0.3 64bit) changed the way we switch tabs. usually it was CTRL + TAB to get to the next tab and CTRL + SHIFT + TAB to get to the previous tab.

Now it switches to the last tab which was opened (similiar to some IDEs). Also multiple switches between tabs shows a preview of the tab first instead of just switching.

Is there a way, maybe some about:config change, to get the old behaviour back?

Hi,

You can go back to the previous behavior by opening the Firefox preferences, and unchecking the "ctrl+tab cycles through tabs in recently used order" option in the "tabs" section.

Hope that helps!

What't the recommended method for preventing these types of UI changes to firefox? Is there a particular mailing list we need to join or particular web page we need to check? It would be great, instead of wasting so much time on bells and whistles like this one, that time be spent keeping the Options pages updated so that the meaningless changes that do get applied to Firefox have a 'reset to normal' button.

In fact, you should not allow any UI changes, like the zoom indicator in the address bar, without a 'hide this UI element' button in the Options. If we were to start a list of things that you haven't quite mastered yet, it would start with the UI, since 100% +/- 0.0 percent of web users are not CSS programmers, therefore any response that begins or ends with 'just do it in userChrome.css' is an admission of failure. There are currenly only four things that are actually mandatory to run Firefox on Windows, Linux or Android, and those are the upper left corner, upper right corner, lower left corner and lower right corner of the window. Everything else /is/ under your control, so if you tell us that 'we can't move XXX UI element because BLANK....then you don't understand this.
