Thunderbird is trying to send mail to a deleted contact in address book
I have been using different lists created in my address book with out any issues. I'm now finding that one address keeps getting bounced back as undeliverable, but when I go to delete it from the address book (list) it is not there.

Which address book did you look in?
Start a message. Address it to the expired address. Save the message as a draft. Open it in the Drafts folder. Select the addressee in the message header and you'll be invited to edit (or delete) the contact.
I'm not sure what this is supposed to do. Typing in the addressee and then highlighting and deleting it only deletes it from the TO: field. When I try to bring up the addressee by using the autocomplete function of the address book, the name is not shown.
The address book I used is one I made for a specific group. It has it's own name and is under "All Address Book" in the address book pull down menu.

I'm perplexed.
If it's in a Mailing List then it must be in an address book. Mailing Lists are simply collections of Contacts, grouped together for your convenience. An entry in a Mailing List must associate with an entry in its parent address book. If you try to add a Contact directly to a Mailing List, a minimal Contact entry is created for you automatically in the parent address book.
So, if it appears in a sent message, it must have come from your Address Book.
I suspect it's entered as a secondary email address. These don't seem to appear in searches. I thought they did. :-(
I think the MoreFunctionsForAddressBook may help you as it allows secondary email addresses to be offered for autocomplete. Then you can hunt it down as I suggested earlier.

Write a new message to the offending address. Save the message as a Draft Open it in the Drafts folder In the message header pane, click on the address where it appears with a yellow star.
