I have tried reinstalling the Java Plugin for Firefox over and over and over again, but it says that I still need to install it when I go to a website that requires it. I made sure that the plugins page for Firefox says that it is enabled (which it is). Java works fine in IE for me, and Chrome. Firefox is the only browser where Java is not working.

Please help me, or I will be switching to a different browser. Thank you.

Which version of Java do you have installed for IE and Chrome?

more options

The newest one, Java Version 7 Update 7.

I uninstalled the newest version and downgraded to the previous version 6 update 35 (or whatever). It works in Firefox with the previous version , but not version 7.

more options

Java Version 7 update 7 should have been working, the update 6 and prior were blocked last week due to published vulnerabilities.

"Should have been working" does not help me. I KNOW it's not working. That is why I'm asking you.

And Java Version 6 is not blocked, because that is what I am using right now with Firefox, and it's working fine. It is Java 7 that is giving me trouble.

Please actually answer my questions. Thank you.

Please, can anyone help me with this? I have tried all the steps in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java, including putting the np*.dll files into the plugins folder of Firefox, and nothing worked.

Putting the np*.dll files into the plugins folder seemed to work at first, since Firefox was actually able to detect that I had the Java 7 plugin installed. However, once I tried going to a page with Java, Firefox crashed every time.

All I see when I open the plugin page is Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.70.10 10.7.2.10. I don't see the plugin at all. Please help.

Hi snowfi6916

try to Re-initializing the plugins database

if the above does not solve the issue try to uninstall Java and delete the registry entries if the uninstaller fails to delete the registry entries, then try to reinstall one more time the plugin.

thank you

more options

I'll try re-initializing the database. It's the only thing I haven't tried yet, since I've already uninstalled and reinstalled a million times, and deleted the registry keys.

I don't have my computer with me right now, but I'll let you know if it worked when I get home.

more options

Re-initializing the plugin database didn't work. It still doesn't detect my Java plugin. Any other ideas?

In your situation, Windows 7 64-bit, you may need to install both the 64-bit and the 32-bit versions of Java.

  • Firefox is a 32-bit browser and requires the 32-bit version of Java.
  • You need the 64-bit Java only if you have a 64-bit browser installed in which you want to use Java.

See - https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml

more options

I've tried that as well (installing both the 32 and 64 bit versions). Still having the same issues...

probably missing registry entry, i think you must to reinstall firefox, see :

Missing plugin alert even though Java is installed

you already done a lot, can you try the above please ?

thanks again

more options

Uninstalled and reinstalled both Java and Firefox. Still have the same problem.

more options

Have you tried deleting your cache? Under Tools / Options go to Advanced then Network, then Cached Web Content. I saw some improvement.

more options

I deleted my cache too. Still didn't work.

Anyway, I'm marking this problem as solved. I downloaded a third-party Firefox browser called Pale Moon (http://www.palemoon.org). It's basically Firefox but for 64-bit Windows, which is what I have.

Installed Pale Moon, downloaded the Java 7 U 7 64-bit version, installed that, and my Java plugin displays in the addons section of Pale Moon.

So, I guess the answer was to stop using Firefox after all. Well, kind of.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I have tried a solution that is working for me so far.

I only have access to Windows 7 (64-bit) and this solution has only been tested on this platform so far.

You have to edit the Windows registry to complete this fix. The problem is in the "Wow6432Node" key under the HKLM\Software hive. There is a MozillaPlugins subkey (used by both firefox and chrome by the way) that holds the java plugin values.

The following lines are for the plugin, you must open up notepad and then copy the lines into that file and save the file as a .reg file. The name is not important but for this exercise we will call it "mozplug.reg".

So when you have finished copying the lines and take the option to save the file, you must type in the exact following - "mozplug.reg"

YOU MUST INCLUDE THE QUOTES

this will create a registry file that you then double-click (left-click) on to import into the registry. You will be asked to confirm the action, do so and it is completed. You should then do the same for the kit which is in the following entry..

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE REG ENTRY LINES

Firefox 16.0.1 Windows Vista 32_Pro

A work around for my issue of Java (Installed /correctly)

1. Not listed in Plugins (list);

2. Plugin Update web page:: Disabled Java by Firefox = update (N/A) .!

Note: Java [Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U7] Installed is Up to date as of 10-14-2012

This workaround was so vague and obtuse that it should not have been posted... @ http_xxx://kb.mozillazine.org/Java

However: @ http_XXX://www.techspot.com/blog/596/a-fix-for-java-applets-not-loading-in-firefox/

Windows 7: A fix for Java applets not loading in Firefox was a very clear and readable solution for my issue:

Short version:

Copy: C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin

npjpi170_07.dll

npoji610.dll

Paste: C:\Users\xxxxl\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxv.xxl\plugins

npjpi170_07.dll

npoji610.dll

BTW I have Vista 32_Pro so this solutions works .!

(remove triple x for links)

It is with hope this solution helps some of you guys..

The issue is not with Firefox but with a problem with the Java installer and the IsScript.msi on the user’s machine. The Java installer is updating or loading the Java Deployment Toolkit but not the Java ™ Platform SE 7 U10 plugin (you can confirm this by going to Tools => Add ons =>Add-ons Manager and see one but not the other) 1- Download the offline version of the Java installer file to your desktop. Run the file with the command;

javadownloadfile.exe /LV* %TEMP%\jreMSI.log You will get a log file in your %Temp% file that should show one or both messages;

ISSCRIPT_VERSION_MISSING = The InstallScript engine is missing from this machine. If available, please run ISScript.msi, or contact your support personnel for further assistance. And/Or ISSCRIPT_VERSION_OLD = The InstallScript engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup. If available, please install the latest version of ISScript.msi, or contact your support personnel for further assistance. 2 - Go to link below to find the procedures to fix the issue for the update file you are running. http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108158&sliceId=1 3 - If in doubt about version number for the update file just • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine from the machine. • Download IkernelUpdate.exe 4 – Uninstall the Java version installed incorrectly by going to Control Panel => Programs and Features 5 – Re-run the javadownloadfile.exe by double clicking it from your desk top. 6 – Confirm that Java ™ Platform SE 7 U10 plugin is now installed. 7 – Test that Java is now working thru the Java Website tester Enjoy!
