Win10Pro64, TB 78.2.1 Even if FF is running when I click on a link in an email, TB attempts to launch a new instance of FF. This results in a message box saying "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window." Historically, TB would use the already running instance of FF. How can I go back to that behavior? I've read the help article "Hyperlinks in Messages Not Working", and followed all of the recommendations, but the problem continues.

Thank you

Try deleting the parent.lock file from the Firefox profile folder, while FF is closed.

sfhowes... Thank you for the reply, but that won't work. FF is indeed running, because I am using it, when I click the link. I don't want to close it before I can click an email link.

You only have to follow the instructions once. After it's fixed, clicking a link in TB will open a new tab in FF, whether it's open or not.

I quit FF, deleted parent.lock, restarted FF, and then loaded up a couple of tabs with my usual web sites. Then I clicked the link in the TB email message. Same results. The problem is that TB is launching a new instance of FF, instead of just using the currently running instance.

I think you should post this in the FF forum, with a reference to this topic for other contributors:

Some more info... I still have TB 52.9 on my machine. It works correctly... links open a new tab in the currently running instance of FF.
