why do filters seem to only work on one mail account?

I have >1 mail account. On each account I want to star and flag mails that, say, are from family. I have created them identically, and I have tested them manually. They do not run on the second account. I have given them different names, and they do specity "any of" and not "all of". Strangely, one of the the filters in the second account is a "move to folder" and it runs properly when new mail is received, but not the "mark" ones. Very puzzling.

Filters only automatically run on new mail. If you have mail received to Inbox, which is read and marked by you manually, these emails can be moved by manually running the specific filter on the Inbox folder.

If you want new incoming mail to be filtered to be marked with eg: a tag and moved to a folder called 'Family', see example:

Tools > message filters check you have selected the correct account name click on new give filter a suitable name Apply filter when: select: Manually run select:getting new mail select: Filter before Junk classification

If you are using one condition or you want all conditions to be true: select: Match all of the following

If you are using more than one condition and you want any of them to be true: select: Match any of the following

'From' and 'Is' and type email address

then to add the tag and move: Perform these actions: 'Tag Message' and select the tag 'Move Message to' and select the Family folder. click on OK

Filters run in the order they are listed, so you need to be sure that a previous filter has not performed a filter action on an email that you would like another subsequent filter to act upon. Make sure specific filters on family run before other filters by moving them to the top of the list.

Filters for each mail account must be assigned to that mail account before creating the filter.

If you still have issues please provide the following:

Images of 'Message Filters' list for each mail account Images of specific filter which is used to sort Family emails for each mail account. Even if they look similar, please post both.

This will allow the forum to see all the information you have set up for the two mail accounts and may help to understand what is going on.
