V 68 is slower than previous version
I saw the change in "ownership" of Thunderbird in the update for v 68. But what happened with the update? So many unnecessary changes, almost as if the entire architecture changed. My concern, as mentioned by others, is how slowly is executes -- typing emails reminds me of working on an old X-Windows terminal in 1975. Why? I have used Thunderbird on Windows almost since it was first introduced. Perhaps someone could motivate the extensive architecture change? (I am running Windows 10 on an HP i7 laptop workstation.)

Tbird 68 is running just fine on my 3rg gen i5 non-workstation laptop. Which previous version exactly were you using before 68? Perhaps your installation needs repair. A clean installation of Tbird may help.
What is the security/AV app on this laptop, and its settings for the TB profile folder? Also try TB in safe mode (hold Shift when launching) in case you have an add-on that failed to update. There are other factors that affect performance, e.g. Windows search indexing, corrupted global search index etc.
