Hey again, been super busy with work and real life lately and haven't had time to test out the Flash plugin or anything. I did see there was a patch for Firefox though, and while I don't want to say with certainty it's been fixed until I have some more time to test it, so far Firefox seems to be far more stable on the previously-problematic sites I was visiting.

Same problem here.

Windows XP 32 bits. Latest flash available. NVIDIA 8600GTS video card (drivers from nvidia). I have tried every tips in the thread: disable hardware acceleration, disable plugins, etc With each hang the CPU keeps at 50% in firefox proccess ID.

I gonna downgrade to 22 (is that or switch to other browser)

If someone needs additional info lets me know. Thx!

Hi pablodc, it sounds like your Firefox hangs/freezes with excessive memory use, but might not be crashing (shutting down).

• If you use the Ghostery extension, please update to 5.0.3 to resolve a known problem with high memory usage and hangs. Usually you can do this from the add-ons page: orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > "gear" button > "Check for Updates"

• Do you notice any difference in Firefox's Safe Mode? (More details below.)

• If Firefox crashes (shuts down), can you post some recent crash IDs? This article describes how to extract and share crash IDs: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly). Firefox's Safe Mode is a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

I not using the ff extension you comment..

Firefox is not crashing, it just hangs taking 50% of available CPU

I gonna try in safe mode but just already has disabled every plugin.

One page that hangs FF always and not randomly is http://traslate.google.com i.e

I have used procexplorer to take a screenshot showing the ff thread that is consuming 50% of the CPU.

Hope this can help in something.

jscher2000, just tried on the regular page, not https...or ff hangs before can switch to https over the regular connection

I updated to FF23 yesterday( Aug 18) and are having the same problems esp with Google searches and new tabs slow to open etc--I just uninstalled FF23 and went back to FF21-and are having No problems ( I previously had problems with FF22 and my copy/paste function not working)

Hi maillis, when you are ready to work on solving your problem with Firefox 23, please start a new thread and include your operating system and add-on information. You also could try Firefox's Safe Mode to see whether that avoid the delay in opening new tabs.

Get Firefox 24.0 Beta, might help solve this crash problem: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/beta/

The 2 most recent reports are the relevant ones; same crash sequence occurred. Running Firefox 23.0.1 Website link loaded a pdf file into an online MS Word reader; after a few minutes Win XP would crash and restart (no error message or BSOD.)

The second crash report is a problem with the Flash plugin.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

• disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
• disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Oh dear.. I had high hopes for 24.0. Still no good. Oh well, as 90% of the interweb still uses flash, my hand has been forced and I'm having to go to Chrome. Mozilla.. WTF have you done? So long and thanks for the memories.

I finally found a resolution and it wasn't from any of the suggestions that were made here, of which I am very thankful for the many replies and suggestions. The only resolution I could find is called Google Chrome...
