On Windows and Linux, Firefox 57 and later crashes occasionally on Intel Broadwell-U processors unless the processor has sufficiently recent microcode.

The crash occurs if the processor vendor is GenuineIntel, family is 6, model is 61, stepping is 4 and microcode revision is 19 (hexadecimal) or lower.

Broadwell-U processors are typically used in laptops released in 2015.

For information on how to check the processor vendor, family, model, stepping and microcode revision and on how to get microcode updates, please refer to the article Updating processor microcode.
