If I open a new tab the whole application will freeze but video will still play in the background so the actual browser hasn't crashed, so to speak. Everything else on my terminal is fine, I can open everything no problem and continue with my business. Sometimes it will solve itself and sometimes I need to kill the application. It's nothing to do with resources. I've recently upgraded my laptop and I did not experience it on my old one. I have an i711 so the CPU is more than quick enough to handle the processes and 16GB of RAM, so memory is not the problem either. As far as I can see, it is do with Firefox. The add ons I have are all approved by Mozilla so I would assume they're not the problem either.

This hiccup only occurs when I open a new tab and it is not consistent and difficult to predict when it will happen. It's like the laptop doesn't have the available resources to open up the new tab- but it does, more than enough.

I had a look through the help articles and couldn't find one that applies to my situation. I will try to capture it the next time it happens and post the screenshot.

Thanks in advance for any help.

So I figured it out and I'll leave it here incase anyone else has the same issue. If you go to settings and look under performance and try changing the content limit process. Mine was originally set to default which is 8 processes. After a bit of reading this should coincide with how many cores your CPU has. My i711 has 4 cores but it has 8 processors. I'm assuming that's why it defaulted to 8 but it actually causes firefox to crash and hang when opening new tabs. I'm assuming it's causing the CPU to make too many processes and clogging up the threads. My firefox doesn't hang anymore nor crash when opening tabs. I have it set to 4 now with the enhancer ticked.

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I thought about using this too but it would be difficult as I would have to use it as my main browser until I notice if it has worked or not. This problem isn't consistent and difficult to reproduce.
