Thunderbird is inconsistent and sporadic in downloading messages from Gmail
We recently switch all our email over to Gmail, but still continued to use Thunderbird as our reader. Thunderbird, however, will only download some new messages, some of the time. I have tried a half-dozen recommended POP settings so far, in both programs, and nothing seems to work consistently.
Clicking on "Get Messages" tells me there are no new messages, even thought 10 new messages have arrived in my Gmail account. Sometimes I'll get one message in the middle of a thread, but not the first or subsequent replies. One message will download to TB during the automatic check for messages, but a message that arrives a few minutes after that won't.
I have a MacBook Pro (2009) running OSX 10.6.8 with Thunderbird 45.8.0, and have updated to the latest version my aging OS can run.

log into your account at gmail and disable all their silly folders like important. I found mail missing in my pop account was being redirected by google to friends, family and important and never making it to the inbox.
Most of the problem things are in the inbox settings.
Thank, but no go. Unchecked every box, and it still only downloads 1 in 3 messages.
Just send 3 test messages from another laptop over the course of an hour, each with attachments. The first 1 came thru, the 2nd and 3rd didn't. The second one was sent 1 minute later from the same account.
