Since ver 55 up to ver 66 of Firefox for Windows, if the Windows default temp directory is changed from %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp to a different location then any webpage sent to Microsoft print to PDF printer will fail to save the file. It only works if temp dir is at default location. Please take a look, thank you all.

Did you look at browser setting as well? And where are you getting the pdf from?

Thanks for replying. I think all my settings are correct. And I'm not talking about downloading pdf files but saving webpages as pdf files through Microsoft Print to PDF printer driver.

So does it fail to save to that location? If it does that would mean the permission isn't set right in the O/S to write to it.

It fails to save to any location. I am pretty sure it's a Firefox bug, because I always have to switch to Chrome or Internet Explorer every time I have a need to save a webpage to pdf file. You can try it yourself and see if you're using Windows. Go to Control Panel > System >Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables... and change the Temp and Tmp values to other locations than defaults.

Do other browsers save the file to the temp location when you print to a PDF file?

To what directory is Firefox saving the file or does it simply use the temp folder and/or the PDF printer driver can't find the file?

When saving to pdf file under Chrome or IE, a temp file is created in the temp dir then it is moved to the user specified dir. I'm not sure how Firefox does it, all I get is a print error shown in the picture. Maybe it couldn't find the temp dir since it was changed from Windows default.
