Is this a POP or IMAP account. Was the missing sent messages sent using Thunderbird, or another device?

It is a POP account, and yes it was sent from my Thunderbird.

I can see the missing eMails refereed to in the Sent.mozmsgs file, and have tried to rebuild the index, both by deleting the sent.msf file and in properties / rebuild file.
