how do I turn off touch sounds?

I recently updated to Android 4.4.2 and now I have touch sounds ONLY when I type in Firefox version 31.0. No other apps have touch sounds, and I have system/touch sounds disabled. How do I turn them off for Firefox?

Hi guigs2,

Thank you for your assistance. I have tried toggling the keyboard preferences several times, including with restarts. No change. I should add that the tablet is an Asus Transformer TF701T so I also confirmed that I had the Google touch keyboard as default and not the Asus touch keyboard.

Going to [about:support] took me to a 'Troubleshooting' page but saw no reset button. I decided to just uninstall and then re-install.

A very interesting thing happened at that point. As soon as I uninstalled Firefox, I started getting touch sounds in ALL of my apps. Before the uninstall, I was only getting them in Firefox. I checked again and Android system settings for Touch Sounds was still set to off and Google keyboard was still set as default. So why am I getting touch sounds??

I proceeded to re-install Firefox and I got a prompt asking if I wanted to use the Asus keyboard or the Google keyboard. I chose Google keyboard (as I've always done) and ALL touch sounds immediately stopped. For ALL apps.

Not sure if that's an Asus, Android, or Firefox glitch. But there you go. Problem fixed.

Best, RE

Hi Raising_Eyebrows, Thank you for your question. I understand that there are touch sounds in Firefox for Android. Can you please toggle the keyboard preferences in the Android device to see if the issue persists? The other step you can take is resetting Firefox, but this would remove all addons and preferences saved on the device. [about:support] page will have the reset button.

Are there touch sound options for each separate keyboard? I will mark your post as the solution since it sounds like an interaction between the three, which is strange.

more options

There are three separate settings for touch sounds:

  1. Sound / System / Touch sounds
  2. Language & input / Keyboard & input methods / ASUS keyboard
  3. Language & input / Keyboard & input methods / Google keyboard

I had all three set to off when I was experiencing touch sounds in Firefox only.

When I uninstalled Firefox and immediately began getting touch sounds in ALL apps, I checked and all three settings were still set to off.

Best guess is that the Android 4.4.2 upgrade somehow messed up the keyboard settings that Firefox was looking for. The act of reinstalling Firefox, and once again answering the prompt for which keyboard I wanted as default, apparently overwrote the incorrect values and fixed the issue.

Thanks again.
