something strange happened. I think firefox updated or something. I turned on my computer and loaded firefox only to find all my tabs from previous session were gone. I followed the instructions on how load previous session but it was greyed out. I went to options and changed the setting to show previous session when starting. I searched through all my history trying to find all my previous tabs (which took me over an hour). After I closed firefox and tried again all the tabs were missing again. I repeated the same process and found that the setting had changed back to show my homepage, which is mozilla. This is really annoying!!! I just want it to load up my previous session when I open the browser!! Is it really that difficult to do? Please help because I am really irritated that I have to keep searching the history everytime that I want to see my pages.

Hi Deepak,

Thank you for your reply. I already tried that but still they won't load previous session when I reopen firefox. Also I have not always have the Restore Previous Session button at the bottom of the screen. When I try via the menu it's greyed out. I don't what mozilla are doing with their updates but I find firefox now not user friendly. It used to be really easy t the open browser and all the tabs would load for me, for some reason this option is no longer available. Do you think it is better to try and back up all my bookmarks and history (If I know how to do that) and uninstall firefox and then reinstall?

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Do you see any numbered sessionstore-##.js files in the Firefox profile folder?

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
