Firefox crashes when during downloads, etc.
I have recently had a new hard drive installed on my laptop, and ever since then I've been having problems with Firefox crashing when files are downloaded, when I try to change the download options in Options, when I have a lot of tabs open, etc. I have scanned for malware with several different program, and I have done a clean uninstall and reinstall of Firefox and the problem mostly persists (can download files sometimes now, but it is still crashing at other times). I did try running Windows in safe mode (before the reinstall) and the problem still occurred. Any suggestions?

Do you have problems with the computer in general, or just Firefox?
Hello. Thanks for your replies.
Yes, I've been discovering more and more problems with various programs crashing or not installing properly and general sluggishness. Haven't found anything serious in any of my malware scans (just tracking cookies).
Going to look into the problems you pointed out.
What OS are you using? As much as I like Windows 8.1, I recently had to do a refresh (basically reinstall the OS) to fix a bunch of small problems. Also, since you got this new hard drive, have you run any kind of maintenance (defrag, cleanup, etc.)?
Hi. I am running Windows 7 SP1. Haven't done a disc defrag or cleanup since the new HD was installed. Will try that as well. Thanks :)
Thanks for your replies SuperSleuth and FredMcD. It seems that my Firefox problems were related to a dui70.dll error, which I fixed by running sfc /scannow, as per http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/4cafe570-b253-4875-ab95-b0a7a035ba02/dui70dll?forum=w7itproperf
Unfortunately this hasn't solved my other problems. I might have to resort to an OS reinstall, but that's outside the scope of this question :)

Thank you for that offer!
The main other problems I am having are related to the installation of certain programs. For instance, MS Office stopped working (get error messages such as "Excel has stopped working" when I try to open documents). I have attempted to repair Office and also to reinstall it. The repair/reinstall seem to work, but I still get the "stopped working" message whenever I actually try to use anything.
I am having a similar problem when trying to install Kaspersky PURE - it just refuses to install (in this case I don't get an error, though. The installation begins and then the window just disappears).
As to MS Office, go to Microsoft.com and try a fresh download. Or ask a question in their help forums.
Do the same at Kaspersky.com
Good luck.
