Had set up sync & synced. A program deleted my bookmarks. Uninstalled the program and tried to recover previous sync. I choose the correct sync file but it tells me it cannot process the file even though I am logged in to sync. Tried to import an HTML file of my book marks I had exported before. I choose import book marks from an HTML file. I then go to the folder with it in it. I click on the file and tell it to open. All the dialog boxes go away and returns to the show all book marks screen. Nothing happened at all.

I uninstalled Firefox and installed the latest Firefox from your site. Have the same problem with this version also. I can open the HTML file from within the browser with no problem so the file is not corrupt.

I can log into my sync account with no problem and it even lists several older sync files but the restoring of any of them run into the same problem. It tells me it is unable to process the file. I had over 13 hundred book marks that I really need but have not been able to recover them at all. I sure would hate to have to open the HTML file then copy each and every link back into Firefox all over again.

Please help. Thanks Dave Wolfer dhwolfer@yahoo.com

From my last post above, I have run the reset Firefox utility but it did not help. Next, I uninstalled the latest version of Firefox and installed a much earlier version clear back to version 17 with the same problem in it.

Finally, I uninstalled Fire fox along with all of it's data and folders. I then went to each directory installed by Firefox and deleted them along with anything left inside each of them. I then re-installed the latest Firefox version 32.xxxxxx then logged into the Firefox Syn. Then loaded all bookmarks and tried to syn again. However, now there were no longer any signs at all from the Firefox Sync that I had ever backed up anything. All the files on Sync were gone. So I tried to import my bookmarks from a .json file I had backed up before all these problems started. All of a sudden, it read it fine and I now have all my bookmarks back. I am thankful that I did a backup not very long before all this started. I did not lose very many sites at all. Moral of all of this; use every type of back up you can to save your backups. Export in HTML and again to a .json file and then to Firefox sync. Believe me if all else fails you will at least be left with an HTML file you can open from any browser and actually import to some browsers.

Since the post above I have been playing around with it some more. So from the HTML files I opened through, "File Open," I clicked on one of the lings in this HTML file. The URL opened. I then crated a folder called temp on the book mark tool bar. From the open URL I dragged the URL icon to this, "Temp," folder. I then opened a new link then went into the newly created folder and clicked on the URL. The browser opened it fine. I then went to show all book marks and this URL did not show up at all. I then went back up to the book mark tool bar and opened the Temp folder. The URL was still there but still the show all bookmarks did not see it. Sounds like a bug in Firefox.
