Flash and Silverlight don't work at all in Beta 34.0, when Internet Explorer properly works with these; happened immediately with update to Beta 34.0.

more options

Hello!

Immediately upon updating to Beta 34.0, Silverlight and Flash, completely stopped working in Firefox. I am running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2.

They work fine in Internet Explorer.

This happens in any website I go to.

For example, I can go to Youtube, and the page will show a black box where the video should be, but there are no play controls, or any way to enable the video. Clicking within the black box does nothing.

On the music play site, Grooveshark, the site does not recognize Flash as being installed at all. (If you don't have Flash installed, this site pops up a message every time. Grooveshark correctly recognizes that Internet Explorer has Flash installed.)

I updated the Flash plugin to the current version, which also did nothing.

I have not reinstalled Firefox, or done a System Restore, yet.

I just bought a new computer that I was going to migrate to, and retire this computer, so I was not going to do heroic efforts to fix this. I was reporting this more on the order of a bug report.

Thanks.

Karl

Karl,

Do you by any chance have Flashblock installed? I had checked it before and did turn it off but that it appears was not enough. The 34b1 update breaks Flashblock which, in turn, breaks Flash and, for me, VLC. I had to disable it (in add-ons) and restart Firefox and now all is well.

I found this by digging for answers on the Mozilla forums and finally found this http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2881007 on Mozillazine.

This happened to me as well with Windows 7 32 bit (which I did as as upgrade from Vista Home Premium - if that might foul things up a bit) and affects Firefox 34.1 and IE. I did a system restore which took me back to Firefox 33 and Flash was fine. Later in the day Firefox updated back to 34.1 and I lost Flash again.

With the last Firefox upgrade, some plugins are no longer enabled until you enable it.

Type about:addons<Enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Plugins.

BTW; At the top right is a link to check your plugins.

I did check the plugins and it was not my problem. I also checked and updated Flash which made no difference to (from 15.0.0.152 to 15.0.0.159). Flash is not detected (the bouncing "F" ) on the Adobe site either.

Also Kaspersky is allowing Firefox, IE and Flash as trusted applications.

Hello!

"With the last Firefox upgrade, some plugins are no longer enabled until you enable it."

The Flash plug-in was/is activated/enabled, so that wasn't it. Flash is current on my system, also.

Thank you.

Hi, it's the other one.

I continued to look at my problem and thought it might be helpful to let you know that I use the VLC plugin for most of my video. It needed updating, which I did and although under "Options" the "Applications" area indicates I have the latest update (2.1.5) the "Plugins" section still tells me I have 2.1.3.

Another interesting thing - when I originally updated the Flash plugin and went to the "Plugins" area to check, when I clicked on "more" under "Shockwave Flash" the entire list of plugins disappeared and I had to use the back button to, well, go back. It no longer does that but it was weird.

oh yes, sorry, VLC doesn't work either.

Hello!

You said: "... the VLC plugin for most of my video."

I don't have VLC installed on my computer, but thanks for the info.

All of these, apparently: Flash, Silverlight, and VLC, appear to no longer work, then.

It appears as if Beta 34.0 and 34.1 break ALL of these video players, under the right circumstances.

Thanks.

I have a thought. The black box you spoke of. Does it have the name, Shumway in its lower right? This is a new type viewer add-on, but it does not work properly. If you have it, disable it. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1083598

There have also been other complaints like yours. Check your computers video driver for updates.

There is no 34.1 Beta build as it is 34.0b# as there is only one Beta build at moment (34.0b1) as there can be say six to twelve with nine being average number of Beta builds for a version. Note that the first couple beta builds of a version can have issues sometimes.

Shumway is only on Nightly development channel (disable by default) unless you went about testing a Shumway extension mentioned at http://www.areweflashyet.com/shumway/

Hello!

I have never installed Shumway.

You said: "...there is only one Beta build at moment (34.0b1)"

Thanks. My Firefox says simply 34.0, instead of 34.0b1.

You said: "There have also been other complaints like yours. Check your computers video driver for updates."

Since Silverlight and Flash work in Internet Explorer, how can this be a video driver problem?

Do you have a link to this discussion?

Thanks.

Well, to be sure I updated to the latest video drivers. I too have nothing listed as Shumway. I also cleared my cookies, cache etc. Nothing has made any difference. The last time I had video is when I did the system restore back to Firefox 33 and all was fine. As soon as the update came back on I lost video. There is a conflict somewhere but I'm not able to find it.

Good morning all,

Looking around at other Firefox 34 issues I came across the new "Hello Button" not installing on some updates. It is found in the customize area. Except it is missing on my 34 b1. Could this perhaps be a tie in with our problem?

Hello!

Yes, I do indeed have Flashblock installed.

As with you, I had turned it off just in case, which did nothing, but I had NOT disabled it in extensions/add-ons.

I have now done so, and restarted Firefox.

Both Flash AND Silverlight, are now working again.

So, this version of Firefox breaks Flashblock. Durn, I LIKE Flashblock!

Thank you!

Karl
