My issues started with the 31 update. My webpages would go blank, images would disappear, drop menus went blank, and playing videos were a problem. I disabled the hardware acceleration in Firefox and it seems to have corrected the problems with webpages, images and drop menus but not with videos. I have updated Flash player and deselected hardware acceleration for flash player. I'm still having the same issues. Video will blink or go completely blank. I just updated my Firefox to version 34.0 and still have the same problem. Can someone please advise? Thanks to everyone who takes the time to help out here! Y'all are awesome.

Hello LK1980,

Other solutions Clear the cache

See How to clear the Firefox cache. Disable interfering extensions or ad-blocking software

Ad-blocking software, such as anti-banner filters of your Internet Security program, or extensions, such as Flashblock or Adblock Plus, can prevent audio or video content from playing. If the site works with ad-blocking disabled, you may want to add the site to your whitelist in your adblocker filter.
Any Firefox extension can also block plugins. If the video or audio plays when you disable all extensions, then one of your extensions was causing the problem. For more information, see Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

Check some Firefox settings

Verify that cookies are enabled in the Privacy panel in the Preferences window. Verify that the site is not blocked in the Cookie Exceptions list.
Allow the website as an exception in the Firefox pop-up blocker. The "Block pop-up windows" option is found in the Content panel of the Preferences window.

Remove specific entries in the hosts file (advanced users)

If you use a hosts file, you can temporarily disable it by renaming it Xhosts. Or, you can edit the hosts file to remove specific entries such as ad.doubleclick.net that can cause videos on certain sites to fail (for more information, see this MozillaZine forum thread). To apply changes to your hosts file, you may need to flush the DNS cache.

Hi HBloomer! Thank you for your response! Unfortunately the issue persists. I cleared my cache, verified that cookies are accepted, added the site to my white list, and disabled the only extension I had (Real Player Downloader) and restarted Firefox. Still the video doesn't function normally. The audio seems to play without issue, but the visual will play for a few minutes and then the entire frame blanks out.

Hello LK1980,

Sorry that didn't resolve the video issue. Have you tried resetting Firefox?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Reset Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: Button reset. Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.
