I completed a Microsoft update, almost immediately after this I got a message to say there had been an attempt to access my account from another country. I immediately changed my password, and can access my gmail account from webmail going directly to the gmail site. However when Thunderbird asks for the new password, and I put in the new password, I get a login failed, Retry, Enter New password, Cancel, also a dialogue box in bottom right telling me to log in via the website and =78754 (failure). Any help appreciated. Using Win 7 and thunderbird version 31.3.0 all fully updated.

did changing the password include changing you to two factor authentication (a text with a password when you want to log in) Google have been pushing this hard, and it does very little to fix anything.

You your using two factor authentication this might help.

Or it might be their security captcha https://accounts.google.com/displayunlockcaptcha

Seriously Google are becoming more trouble than their accounts are worth.
