I have been using Thunderbird for a long time. One day it told me that my password was wrong. after several attempts of writing the correct password y decided to delete the email account and start from fresh. Now when I am setting the account it tells me "configuration could not be verified - is the username and password wrong?". None of them are wrong. I tried changing the password, contacting my email provider and everything works great except when trying to use Thunderbird. The email that I had been trying to set up is from work. Any help fixing this will be really appreciate it.

The best suggestion is get the correct settings from your provider. They setup up their servers. They know the settings that work.

Username = email address Password is the same password used to access webmail account using a browser.
If you have definately got the correct username and password, then they may be correct but not for the settings you are trying to use. When you get 'Configuration could not be verified' check that the correct server type has been selected..POP or IMAP. Click on 'Manual Config' button Make sure settings are correct and click on 'Done' This will create the account (even if not fully functioning).
If still not working then paste following info As the account was created, this info can be located here: 'Help' >'Troubleshooting Information' do not select 'Include account names' click on 'Copy text to clipboard' button In this forum question paste the info. you can then edit/remove all info on fonts and printers but nothing else.
Basically, the forum needs to know what settings you are trying to use. The info you copy paste will tell us exactly what Thunderbird has got stored, so we can see if there is any incorrect settings.
Hello, here is the information requested. Thanks for your response.
ID Incoming server Outgoing servers Name Connection security Authentication method Name Connection security Authentication method Default? account1 (imap) imap.secureserver.net:993 SSL passwordCleartext smtpout.secureserver.net:465 SSL passwordCleartext true account2 (none) Local Folders plain passwordCleartext account3 (imap) imap.secureserver.net:993 SSL passwordCleartext smtpout.secureserver.net:465 SSL passwordCleartext true account12 (imap) mail.xxxxxxxx.org:143 alwaysSTARTTLS passwordCleartext smtp.xxxxxxxx.org:587 alwaysSTARTTLS passwordEncrypted true
If the new account is #12 in your listing I would be suspect of the setting for encrypted password for the SMTP server. Not many providers support that and I highly doubt that the inbound server uses normal password while the outbound is encrypted.
What so you suggest me to do? I tried both normal and both encrypted and nothing worked.
