a problem including a file nsemail.html
Every time I send a email since the software update I get: There was a problem including the file file:///c:\docume~1/user/locals~1/temp/nsemail.html in the message. Would you like to continue sending the message without this File?

What is your anti-virus software?

avast 2015
avast 2015
Try to start *Windows* in safe mode with networking enabled.
- Win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode
- Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
- XP http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx
Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode.
Does the problem go away?
When I reboot in safe mode, my connection keeps timing out. Never could actually send an email to see if I got the same message.
Your problem is avast.
Is there a way for me to correct this if it's avast? Just started doing it the last week, I think after they updated.
I am using Avast too and am having the exact same problem. I tried everything on TB side including full reinstall, etc etc etc
If it's Avast, what's the solution? Thanks
Turning off Avast solves the problem, BUT !
I added to exclusions
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp
but that's scary!
Where did you add the exclusion?
In Avast's exclusion list.
Had a long talk with them - it sucked.
According to Steven employee ID 5084 in tech support I can request the previous version of AVAST because the new one (10.3.2223) has a MAJOR bug. The bug is that it prevents Thunderbird from sending mails because it blocks /Temp/nsemail.html
So the current workaround is to disable Avast for that folder which is dangerous because that's an active folder and can get viruses.
I am a long term AVAST user but today talked to Tech Support for first time and it was very disappointing. Steven was consistently giving me a lazy, can't-do attitude and I had to threaten to escalate this to your CEO to get him to write a one line problem description. I also received wrong info -- Steven said Avast deploys Beta software as production version for example that is false -- lot of guess work and passing the buck. I had a very bad experience talking to Avast.
Anyway, he said I can write to you and you will email me the previous version of Avast. Please do so. Thank you.
Added this under settings/ exclusions
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\*

You do need to run Windows safe mode with Networking enabled.
Added this under settings/ exclusions C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\*
You'd need to exclude the Thunderbird profile folder. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
but for me just excluding just temp worked.
Excluding temp is in no uncertain terms a very dangerous thing for an anti virus program to do. This is akin to a prison where the guards say, it is ok we have satellite surveillance and all sitting in the tea room for their shifts. Ask AVAST just what they are doing to actually fix the problem. If they can not offer a solution other than ignoring the temp folder get an anti virus product that actually works.

We do Thunderbird here. We do not have copies of any old software other than Thunderbird. Perhaps Avast can supply you an old version of their software that actually works.
Matt -- that was a quote from my email to Avast -- i know u don't provide avast here - their tech supp said if i email they provide old version but he was very incompetent and kept wanting to pass the buck. and the reply i got from avast was just as bad and showed the first guy being wrong anyway. I like avast except this -- what anti virus do u use?
BTW, why is TB using this stupid nsemail.html file? Is there a way I can configure TB not to rely on the temp directory at all?
Oh of course Avast lets you exclude one file and not just whole directories
so now i exclude
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\nsemail.html
and it seems to work.
No - now I'm getting error from TB autosave: "there was an error saving the message to .Retry"
WHAT IS THIS ERROR MESSAGE FROM TB?
WHAT IS ".RETRY" ?
THANKS.
