when entering contests - I use 3 diff emails @aol.com, @sbcglobal.com & @reedrubber.com and error message says must use a valid email address. ?

Why does this happen - clearly all 3 emails are valid- but I always get error messages when entering contests or subscribing to 

newsletters  stating enter a valid email  or sometimes says: use a proper email format ...

This isn't a Firefox question, this is probably either mistyping the e-mail address or poor e-mail handling from those websites.
