I have the latest version of Thunderbird but the spell-check does not work - I have set it in options/composition but I cannot select a dictionary - the drop down box does not work. I select download a dictionary and try to download the latest version of the British/English dictionary but am unable to do so, the message being that it does not work with version 38.2.0, and neither will any of the earlier versions. How do I get it to spell-check ?

Hi

I use this dictionary myself in Thunderbird.

  1. Download the file using your web browser
  2. Open Thunderbird
  3. Go to Tools> Add-ons
  4. Click on the little "cog" icon
  5. Select Install Add-on from File and navigate through to where you saved the downloaded file.

This should install a British English dictionary into Thunderbird and is what I have done to make sure I have a working dictionary in Thunderbird 38.2.0.

I hope this helps, but if not please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.
