My Thunderbird was in French interface and suddenly turned into English while keeping a few points in French which is very unnerving. In addition, it does not get my mails on demand but I have to close it down and reopen it in order to get my new mails and it does not inform me any more with the blue envelope in the bar. How do I repair all this and get back to French without losing my mails, files and settings? My OS is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

You can download the English version from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all/ Remove your current version and install the English version.

If you use the version provided by your distribution check with them.

Note, in case you also use Lightning, don't mix versions from Mozilla and versions provided by your distribution.

I do not want Thunderbird in English, I want it in French. Thankfully the guys at the Ubuntu Forum helped me to solve this problem. In case it may help others, in a terminal I typed sudo apt-get install --reinstall thunderbird-locale-fr (works with any language instead of -fr) and after the reinstallation of the French language package I made an update followed by a full upgrade.

I found no hints any where on how to do it. I hope that what I have done is satisfactory.
