How do I move large numbers of emails to a folder?
I have just converted over from Windows Live mail to Thunderbird. About 900 emails have transferred . I have set up specific folders and would now like to move these emails into their proper folder. Is there a way to sort by author, select all and then drag into the correct folder?

Use the column header 'FROM'. Click on it to sort by 'From', click again to reverse the order if required.
Cannot see 'FROM' column header ? click on the far right 'Select columns to display' icon - see image below. select 'FROM'
Now that they are organised in a block. click on first email to highlight Hold down 'Shift' key and clickon the last one in that block. It will highlight all in between Right click on highlighted emails and select 'Move-to' and select the folder. You can also left click and hold down on highlighted emails to grab, then drag to the left and hover over the folder. Release to drop. Suggest you do it in batches.
