Why don't I have email after my home page format changed?

Logged on after three days of no computer use. My home page has changed and there is no "mail" icon to click on. How do I find that icon? Please keep it simple. I'm not a savvy computer user. Thanks.

What was your home page? Has the web address changed, or just the setup?

Hi karklea, do you recall anything like the following:

Firefox reported that it is starting or running slowly and offers a button to restore some default settings? If you click that button, the Refresh feature runs, and that resets your home page to the built-in home page (has a Firefox logo, a search box, and various icons that run internal features of Firefox). Refresh creates an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop, so if you see such a folder, that could be what happened.

If the new home page does NOT sound like the built-in Firefox home page, an add-on or other program program might have changed it. Could you describe it in more detail? What does it look like? Does it have an address on the web?

Hi jscher2000. Thanks for trying to help me figure this out. I don't recall any report of it running slowly or clicking on anything. I shut down my computer three or four days prior and when I turned it back on the Firefox home page was slightly changed. I no longer had an email icon. There are new icons I have never seen before: "edit this bookmark", "show your bookmarks", "save to pocket", and "start a conversation", I still have "display the progress of ongoing downloads", "https://search.yahoo.com/firefox/?fr=sfp-yff28", and "open menu" for a total of 7 icons. But no envelope to click on for email. It finally occurred to me to enter "Yahoo email" in the search box and then select "Yahoo - log in" so I have finally been able to access my email that way. Is that what you mean by "does it have an address on the web"? I would still like to have that email icon back on my Foxfire home page, though! Also, a couple of weeks ago I suddenly stopped needing to use a password to access my email. I thought I must have accidentally clicked on that little box near the sign in that lets you access without entering a password. Thanks for trying to dumb this down for me and for your patience!

Hi karklea, I was thinking of home page in the more technical sense of the page that appears below the toolbars, but it sounds as though you are missing the Yahoo Toolbar, or one of its icons.

Could you check the status of the toolbar on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side, scroll down; if the Yahoo! toolbar is disabled, it will appear near the bottom.

If it is disabled, does it have an Enable button? Some older versions of the toolbar are blocked in Firefox 43 because they were not digitally signed by Mozilla. If yours has that problem, you can try reinstalling it from here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar/

Does that help?

Used "Ctrl+Shift+a and learned that "Yahoo toolbar could not be verified for use in Foxfire and has been disabled." Only button says "Remove". There is no "Enable" button. I'll try to use the link you provided to reinstall tomorrow. I've reached my limit for today. Thanks for the help.
