I am unable to find a Firefox icon in the upper left by the menu bar. When I try to sign in to sync after pressing the menu button, there is no sign on button unless i go into customize mode and then the the sign on sync button is dim and non-responsive. I have reinstalled Firefox and it does not make a difference. On many instructions they start with go to the Firefox icon; it has never appeared. Therefore there are two problems. At one point I did see something saying sync was loading but not where nor how to get to it.

Current Firefox version use a "3-bar" menu button that is positioned at the at the right end of the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also access the about:preferences#sync page via the location/address bar like you open a web page.
