Unless I remove all cookies before logging into hotmail, hotmail doesn't work.

All of my emails and folders disappear and I can't receive emails, though I can send them. If I remove all cookies before logging into hotmail, then hotmail works perfectly. Two hotmail accounts are accessed on this computer and only one is having problems while the other one is working perfectly. If the other hotmail account isn't logged into my hotmail continues to work perfectly, but as soon as the other acc is logged into, I have problems with my hotmail unless I 'remove all cookies' in Firefox.

I have a Mac computer and have updated to OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 and refreshed Firefox to try and solve the problem but none of that has worked.

You may have a corrupt cookies.sqlite file.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the cookies.sqlite file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Thankyou for your quick reply :-)

I have tried what you suggested but the problem is still happening. I have just done a test and used Safari browser instead of Firefox. I logged into the problem hotmail acc, then the other hotmail acc, and back to the problem hotmail acc and the same problem happens when I use Safari. So does that mean it is a cookie/browser problem or a hotmail problem?

Did you log out of one account before login into the other?

Yes I did log out. Do you think it is a cookie/browser problem or a hotmail problem? The same problem occurs using both Firefox and Safari.

If this happens with more than one browser, then it's a website or a computer problem.

As a test, disable your protection programs.

When you mention 'protection programs', do you mean virus protection programs? I don't have any of those on my computer.

When I deleted the cookies.sqlite file there were other cookies files as well. Would any of these be causing the problem?

  • cookies.sqlite-shm
  • cookies.sqlite-wal

Go ahead. Firefox will re-create files when they are needed.

With the number of viruses and bad websites out there, your system needs protection.
