How can I stop firefox from crashing everyday without discontinuing use?
Hello,
I've tried reinstalling Firefox, creating a new profile etc. I figured I would finally ask for help because I can't enjoy using firefox on my Mac. Can someone help me finally resolve this firefox issue?
Here's some of the crash reports, I hope this information is helpful.

Hi, you are using an old version of Firefox, which can compromise your security and may be causing your problem. To update it to v44.0.2, open the 3-bar menu > Help (question mark at bottom right) > About Firefox.
If that doesn't help, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem. Thank you!
First thing is to check for updates for your GeForce graphics drivers and install the updates if found. The first three crash reports have red-flagged GeForceGLDriver on the Modules tab of those crash reports.
The crash reports are about Firefox 44.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.8.5 that seem to be related to the JavaScript compiler or garbage collection (memory cleanup).
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
You can check for issues caused by plugins.
- set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the about:addons page (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins)
- plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode
Thank you everyone for the the replies. I was running Firefox on safe mode as Scribe suggested and it didn't crash for one of the longest times. I tried to update the graphics card but I can't when over I run the software it says my system isn't compatible with the web driver so now I'm going to try to run firefox with all the same tabs open but without the hardware acceleration.
I've tried every suggestion and it's still crashing. With the safe mode and acceleration deactivated both times it took longer for the browser to crash but it still end up happening. Firefox never really crash on my less powerful windows pc and though I don't use my other mac because the screen is cracked, when I have it hooked up to my tv I can't remember firefox crashing.
