how to prevent additional tabs except pinned tabs from opening on startup
I typically only have one (Pinned) tab open in Firefox when I shut it down. This is one of my e-mail accounts. I often have a few tabs open, but never need them in my next session, so I shut them down.
I have Firefox configured to reopen previous tabs.
EVERY time I reopen Firefox, I get my pinned tab, along with the default Firefox startup page.
I've searched, but have not found a solution. The closest was 2 years old, and basically said, it's not possible to prevent the additional tab.
I find it difficult to believe that it is not possible after all this time, to eliminate this annoyance. Typicaly, the first thing I have to do is close this extra tab. Please let me know how to prevent this.

Sorry, but I don't believe that this is possible.
Your pinned tabs will always reopen when you restart Firefox and the start page is set as your Firefox homepage. Firefox currently has no way to prevent opening the homepage if you have a pinned tab loaded at the start.
You can try searching for a Firefox addon that can achieve the behavior that you desire.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue.

Thanks. I was hoping for a different answer, but thanks anyway.

Not sure exactly what you need.
Why not just use those as home pages, and start from homepages. You can always also look at History if you need to get other tabs back.
Thank you John99 for the information, but these do not lend a solution to my particular problem.
I thought it was fairly clear what I wanted.
Basically, I use Firefox for one of my e-mail accounts, and chrome for another. When I open it up, I ONLY want gmail to show up, and nothing else.
Everything else I use Firefox for, is brought up via bookmarks, by opening a list of links all at once (which open up tabs for each).
It simply appears that they don't want to change this behavior in the browser, so that's that.
I guess I'll mark this closed, even though it's not technically resolved.

If you close Firefox with only pinned tabs open then Firefox will always open one normal tab on the next start. You would have to set the startup page to a blank page or make sure that you open a blank tab before closing Firefox.
Use three separate Firefox instances together.
If you forget about the idea of pinning the tab and instead set email as your homepage with Firefox set to open on the homepage then you will see Gmail and nothing else when you open Firefox.
Or if you have only gmail open and single tab then if you open Firerox with previous tabs you see your email.
You could always use separate Firefox profiles, assuming you have the resources and RAM and have three separate instances of Firefox running simultaneously each with its own profile. One for only email account 1. A second for only email account 2. A third for general browsing.
See
- Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
- https://developer.mozilla.org/Mozilla/Multiple_Firefox_Profiles
Do not use the -no-remote option on the browser profile used s the default just on the other two profiles.
John99, that is an option I had not thought of. I'll do that (setting gmail to NOT be a pinned tab).
Thanks

You can run a 2nd email account from the same provider by using a Private Browsing window. That will not be remembered on a restart. However using an additional Firefox profile gets round that allowing two separate gmail accounts to be used in Firefox.
