When I send an email it create two copies in the Sent Folder. I have looked through settings to find something that may be set wrong but can't find anything that looks wrong.

Some providers already place a copy in the sent folder so you need to tell Thunderbird not to. Right click the account in the folder pane on the left and select settings. Go to Copies and Folder and uncheck that option to Place a Copy in the Sent folder.
