I restarted my laptop after a system crash, when I launched Thunderbird it was not accessing my profile, mail, previous settings etc. I was prompted to set up an email account from scratch. How can I re-access my existing mail files?

Problem solved, following the crash Thunderbird had created a new "Local-1" directory. In Account Settings > Local Folders I edited the "Local directory" path using the "Browse" action to point to the correct folder "Local" containing my mail files.
