Today Microsoft Outlook or Hotmail changed their site radically. I can no longer use Thunderbird to access my account with the following error.

Sending of password for user *myaccount*@hotmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop3.live.com responded: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password. [Error="ProxyNotAuthenticated" AuthResult=0 Proxy=AM2PR01MB0451.eurprd01.prod.exchangelabs.com:1995:SSL]

This is not password related and has something to do with the way Thunderbird accesses the account. I'd like this fixed quickly as I do not find the outlook web-based interface particularly useful.

Other Microsoft users have found that they turned POP protocol off. Go to the webmail site and see if that is your problem.

The new 'site' disables POP by default. That was indeed the problem. Thanks for that.

I hope you fixed this quick enough for your satisfaction. :)
