I am in the midst of moving from Windows Vista to Windows 10. I didn't care for the email system on Windows 10 so decided to try Thunderbirds. I have three email addresses on Vista and I set up the same three addresses on Thunderbirds. it must be several years since I last set up an email system so, inevitably, there were a couple of minor errors, which I was unable to correct so I uninstalled, and then reinstalled Thunderbirds to start over. The reinstalled version arrived with all the details of the email addresses already entered - including the errors.

I would appreciate guidance in how to uninstall and the reinstall a "clean" copy of Thunderbirds

Hi Zenos

I am very much obliged to you for your assistance - delighted to say that the problem is now solved.

However, I am puzzled at the rationale whereby Thunderbird leaves so much information on the system after, apparently, a complete uninstallation of the Thunderbird programme. Do you have any thoughts on the matter?

Best wishes

Thunderbird stores your settings separately from the program itself, in its profile. You'll need to delete that to get a clean start.

You can locate your profile by going to Help|Troubleshooting Information, and click on the button that opens your profile in your file manager.

But what exactly was the problem with the account? It's probably fixable.

He gave you his thoughts. The program is separate from your data.

I think you'll find many programs do this. Have a look around in your AppData folder. And your registry. ;-)

If you're concerned about the security, privacy or just tidiness issues of leaving data behind, you might want to consider something such as the revo installer/uninstaller,. which tracks the state of the computer before and after an installation and so can reverse all changes, including the removal of data folders created by programs.

Thanks for that - will investigate Revo installer/uninstaller
