Why can't I delete or edit bookmarks?

I can't edit or delete my existing bookmarks anymore. The bookmarks also don't show up in show all bookmarks. There is nothing there. The bookmarks I have work when I click on them but I can't move them around or delete. I got a new work computer and the IT department had to add my bookmarks from the mozilla backup file. This could be part of the problem.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Then follow the directions.
