no old data transferred
I have had a replacement win 7 computer(was xp), and all my old data is in a file marked "old c". How do I restore this, as there are 10 years of emails I need to access. I have tried copying the thunderbird file, but it will not restart, and when re-installing, it will only set up a new file. I have tried import, but that does no see the old data.

I think you need to learn a bit about Thunderbird's profile. Then find your old profile and swap it in, in place of the new profile.
