Firefox froze-hanged on one page,I rebooted(which usually works)but now Firefox only opens to that same page(still frozen),won't respond, and I have only one other browser installed(Opera) - the very same thing also happened with IE a while ago and is in factt he second time it has happened with Firefox,The other time I just stopped using it and used IE and a few months later I opened Firefox and it worked again. So do I just use Opera(for however long it will last)?I tried uninstalling then reinstalling but the same thing happened and I couldn't even click the "refresh/cleanup" option as it will not respond!!How can I make a new profile in Firefox when it won't even respond,I can't do anything at all with it anymore?Help!

What is your computer system and Firefox?

What is the web address you are having the trouble with?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

My computer is a Toshiba running Windows 7 and Firefox 49.0.1.The website Firefox is stuck on is blingee.com,of all places.

Any page on that site?

Close Firefox. Wait for a slow count of 20. Right-click the Firefox icon on the taskbar and select Open New Window. Once open, close Firefox.

That should clear the session restore. Wait for another slow count.

Now try that website again. Is the problem still there?

If Yes; Close Firefox again. After another slow count,

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Hello, if you want to create a new firefox profile you can use the next command in windows command line

  • firefox -CreateProfile SonjaRose(you can type whatever you want)

to open the profile manager and create a new profile from here:

  • firefox -ProfileManager

keep attention to 1 empty space between firefox and -CreateProfile (firefox<space>-CreateProfile > firefox -CreateProfile SonjaRose) also between -CreateProfile and SonjaRose also between firefox and -ProfileManager)

thank you

This is more work initially than starting a new profile, but less setup steps later: hide your session history files from Firefox so it can't restore the session with the bad page. Here's how:

(1) Open your profile folder

Type or paste the following into the Windows Run dialog or the system search box and press Enter to launch Windows Explorer:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

In that folder, do you see one semi-randomly-named folder? If so, click into it. If you find multiple such folders, find the one that was most recently updated.

(2) Hide sessionstore.js file / remove sessionstore.bak file

In your profile folder, scroll down and look for sessionstore.js -- it's okay if it's not there, after a crash, it usually is missing. If you do find it, right-click > Rename the file with a .txt extension for possible future reference.

Note: By default, Windows hides the .js extension. To ensure that you are looking at the files I mention, you may want to turn off that feature. This article has the steps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions

If you see a file named sessionstore.bak it's probably very old now, you can just delete that file.

(3) Hide the session history backups folder

Find the sessionstore-backups folder (this may be back toward the top of the file list. right-click > Rename the folder to sessionstore-old (or similar name of your choice). You may wish to use files from this folder to get back some of your recent tabs, so please do not delete it.

Now, when you start Firefox, it should be unable to find any previous session history files and will start a new session.

It was just one single page on that site.

Later this afternoon I tried opening Firefox again and it went to Restore Session and I managed to get back to the home page.It was frozen for an whole day.

I'm making a note of the last 3 replies in case it happens again(knowing Firefox it probably will)especially the last one,as the Restore Session thing is bothersome anyway.Recently it's been more frequently though.Thank you for the replies and tips.
