Google blocked me and had to turn off security to get emails
This evening I tried to log into thunderbird to get my emails. Had to log in through my browser. Google state that Thunderbird as well as MS Outlook are not using the best security and that one should use gmail or an other app. Alternative is to allow the use of less secure app's. On doing that I received my emails. Am on Windows 10.

Why, when there is no obvious problem?
With Gmail, you should use 2-Step Verification and an App Password.
The use of an app password is needed only in a specific scenario. When there is no obvious problem, why do you keep suggesting them anyway?
Thank you both for your replies. Have been using Thunderbird and it's predecessor for years. The 2 step verification most probably will not work. If you look at "sign in using App passwords"and go into the detail Google specifically mention that Both Outlook and Mozilla use weaker security sytems and they will not NOW allow you to log in without changing your security to allowing aps that are less secure to log in.
Use google products is their answer! Have a look and tell me if I am wrong
I use OAuth2 and in some cases, 2-factor authentication, which involves a 6-digit number being sent to you via SMS to a mobile/cell phone. No need for app passwords or "less secure apps" being permitted.
