How to disable Firefox Default Downloader?
I need to block my default firefox downloader and use downthemall for every single download but there appears to be no easy way to do that. There used to be an addon named "Public Fox" which did exactly that but Public Fox isn't now compatible with the latest version of Firefox.
In simple words maybe I just need a version of Public Fox compatible with Firefox 55.

Some websites send a signal that starts the download automatically. If you know what you are doing, you can have a download manager do the download instead.
Thanks for replying Fred, can I set downthemall as my default downloader so that all downloads go to downthemall rather than FF default downloader ?
I don't know that program.
it's a firefox addon DownThemAll I want this addon to take charge of every single download by firefox

Unfortunately that add-on won't migrate to WebExtensions .......
See : https://www.ghacks.net/2017/07/07/firefox-add-ons-webextensions-state-july-2017/ (scroll down some)
So there's not workaround ?
Video DownloadHelper might be an alternative :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/
But they are working on some issues pertaining to the migration to WebExtension :
See also FlashGot:
Note that FlashGot has never been updated.
If there's no solution for this directly is it possible to render all downloads being added to firefox's default downloader as cancelled or paused (latter I'll click cancel manually)?

Hi again !
You may want to change the setting here :
3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Options => Applications or : Options => General => under 'Downloads'
Would you please take a look at this article :
In 'about:config' you could also try to change the value of the preference browser.download.folderList
0 = desktop 1 = Downloads 2 = most recent specified location
See : https://www.lifewire.com/firefox-about-config-entry-browser-445707

These are actions after the download has been commenced!

And only targets the storage location what I need is to cancel the download.
Have you tried to get the developer of Public Fox to update and migrate the add-on to Webextension ?
As an alternative I can only think of forementioned add-on :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/
or the one cor-el mentioned :
I didn't try to contact that developer, but I'm thinking about doing some with Firefox API's if catch something I'll let you know, thanks for all the help :) love ya!

I skimmed through and it's about Mike Kaply's CCK Packages to be integrated in customized firefox distribution (doesn't solve my problem). Right now I have given up on this ATM I'm working on Android Development after that I'll work on Firefox API and hopefully do this dirty work by myself :p
