I use Firefox to do work online; It has been working fine up until yesterday and I cannot open files anymore off one of the websites I use. I tried using my laptop with Firefox and it works fine still but not on my desktop. Other browsers work such as Chrome but I prefer Firefox since I use macro Pro Express which works better in Firefox. Not sure why the program is not allowing me to open files anymore as of yesterday afternoon.

Thank you

I think this problem started when my software updated;Windows 10

What happen yesterday?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

it did not resolve the problem when I start Firefox in Safe Mode. I am still unable to open files and the files are not in the hyper link format anymore.

What Windows update are you talking about?

more options

Not sure what Windows update it was but the problem first started on my desktop on Wed 9/13/17 and then I switched to my laptop and everything was fine until I turned off my laptop and an automatic Windows update took place. I rebooted laptop the next day and after the update was completed my laptop won't open my work files in Firefox anymore either.

I think the files may be PDF files and they use to be in a light blue hyperlink format before the problem started.

Open the Windows Updater program. Select Installed Updates. Remove the problem update. Once you are done, go back to the main updater page. Select Check For Updates. Find that update and click it once. There should be the option to hide that update. To see any hidden updates, select Restore Hidden Updates from the main updater menu.

on 09/13 17 updates were installed but I am not sure which one could be causing the problem. There is a Cumulative updates for Windows 10; Security update for Adobe Flash player Windows 10 version; Security update for Microsoft Office 2010; Security update for Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack 3: Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites; Security Update for Microsoft office 2010; Security Update for Power point viewer and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool

The updates that, on most computers, install automatically, often times on Patch Tuesday, are security related patches and are designed to plug recently discovered security holes. These should be installed if you want to keep your computer safe from intrusion. Updates that aren't security related usually fix problems with or enable new features in, Windows and other Microsoft software.

You have this problem on one particular website only  ?

more options

Yes on my work website. I contacted IT dept and they have not made any changes so it leads me to believe it was due to updates. The hyperlink files which are pdf are the ones that will not open anymore.

The hyperlink files don't open at all or do they open to a blank page  ?

Would you check this setting please :

3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Options => Applications Under ' Content Type' look for: 'Portable Document Format (PDF)' and check the setting under 'Action'

Hyper link files will not open at all and they are not highlighted in blue anymore and won't open. They will open in Chrome browser but I prefer to use Firefox. i will try your suggestion and let you know. Appreciate the help.

Move your mouse over the link. Does it show as a link in the little window bottom left?

It could be the text was not flagged as being a link.

more options

no it doesn't show up in lower corner. I will have to try some other options later. Thank you

Tell support that the links were not flagged as links, so they are displayed as plain text.

Another thing to try: right-click the "link" and check the context menu: if you do not have link-related actions like Open Link in New Tab or Save Link As, then there may be a problem with how the links are displayed in Firefox. If you do have those two items, could you try them?
