Thunderbird seems to have updated itself on our Windows 10 machine three days ago, and now we can't get to our existing e-mail accounts, previous messages, or

After the apparent accidental Thunderbird update, we could not retrieve our e-mail normally. I re-entered the account information for one of the five e-mail addresses we use, but that gave us no access to the many e-mails we already have on the drive. It looks as if this unwanted update created one or more new folders for itself and is not connected with the ones containing our profiles and much other information. It looks like we need to roll back to Windows 7 (nothing to do with this issue), so we'd really like to have Thunderbird set up and working normally if possible before the techs kill Windows 10 and bring us back Windows 7. Thanks for any help!

There seems to have been a spate of these incidents recently.

As far as I know, none of the regular contributors has experienced this first-hand, so we can only guess at what is happening. My own Windows 10 installation has updated several times, both the OS and Thunderbird, and it's all intact.

I think this article:

night be more appropriate to your situation.

Thank you for giving me the link. I don't think our problem is one of those described on that page--or maybe it is one of them. A big problem, which I apparently wrote badly about, is that we can't get access to the e-mails already taken down to our hard drive or to the account information itself. Somebody suggested last week that maybe the update created new folders, and I should try to move the old information into these. This sounds sensible to me, but I don't know how to try doing that. I'll be grateful for any new ideas or information. Thanks!
