I want to delete my browsing history but when I get to History the option of Delete Browsing History" is greyed out. I don't understand why and I don't know how to get around it or change it.

What does your screen shot look like when you go to your History option?

Along the same lines as the earlier question, are you using "Show All History" to view history?

Does it show your current history or only old history?

If you only see old history and you can't remove it, you might be using automatic private browsing. In private browsing, new history is not saved, but old history from non-private sessions might be "read only". (At least that's how it used to be; I haven't looked at it myself for a long time, so maybe that has changed by now.)

Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
