I have 1 person who keeps sending me nasty emails and I don't want to block them. i have a filter setup to move them to another folder but i would also like to have an automatic reply that I can do the wording myself. Is there an add-on?

You would have to create a filter for this email address. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/organize-your-messages-using-filters

Then create a template to send as the reply. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Using_Templates

I have not used either one so I cannot help more than provide the instructions. Come back if you still have questions because there are a few here that use both.
