After Firefox updated - without asking I might add - I know have no more bookmarks, they are nowhere to be found. Read through several of the "help" pages, only to find out there is no help whatsoever. Why isn't Firefox capable of updating without messing everything up? Have looked for my profile and found it, but what good does that do???? My bookmarks are still gone. Great job, Firefox!!!

Hi,

If you can't find all of your bookmarks and bookmark folders in Firefox Quantum (version 57 or up), try this solution:

  1. Click on the Library 57 library icon icon on your Firefox toolbar.
  2. Click on Bookmarks, then click on Bookmarking Tools.
  3. Click on Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar.
    • A Bookmarks Menu Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) icon will be added to your toolbar.
  4. Click on the new Bookmarks Menu icon. You should get the same Bookmarks Menu as in earlier Firefox versions.

Let us know if this solves the problem.

Hi Tonnes, if the above is your answer to my question/problem, no, your suggestion is NOT helping, do, however, appreciate you posting. As I mentioned in my post, have read a lot but nothing!!!! is helping. I think if FF is messing everything up, they should also come up with an answer on how to fix it.

I’m sorry, we do not have a support article about how to fix Firefox when it "messed everything up".

Please be more specific and post a screenshot - there is no way for us to know what you read and tried, nor to see what you see. The answer above is a common reply to people "losing" their bookmarks after upgrading to Firefox 57. Additionally, the Library window is unchanged compared to pre-57 versions and should be allowed to open using several ways described in the support article, i.e. by pressing Alt+T (Tools) > Show All Bookmarks, or Ctrl+Shift+B, or menu button.

What happens? Do you see no Library, a Library with no content (at all or in the left pane), or...? And do you experience other issues besides bookmarks not displaying?

If the latter is true, create another profile and launch Firefox with that profile as described in Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles to see if Firefox behaves normally.

If however the bookmarks toolbar is missing too and you cannot enable it using View (press Alt when needed) > Toolbar > Bookmarks Toolbar, check the integrity of your Places database (= check whether it’s corrupt) by opening about:support (or Help > Troubleshooting Information) and clicking the Verify Integrity button. Is that OK?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

See also:

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
