Is Thunderbird Support aware the password retry dialog (after error) now takes forever to appear?

When starting Thunderbird with only one email account defined and entering the wrong password, the password retry dialog takes a 2+ minutes to appear. This is the message that eventually comes out:

"Sending of password for user [userid] did not succeed. Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later."

pop.verizon.net is actually housed on AOL now.

This issue never occurred until about a year ago with an upgrade to Thunderbird. When entering the wrong password the dialog appears to be in the background. If you close Thunderbird, the Retry/Enter New Password/Cancel dialog appears immediately. However, TB ends immediately and you have to restart the application.

Do you find this to be better in version 60?

I have TB 60.3.1 and the issue still remains, no better.
